Postcard from Vienna
My cup of coffee from Vienna, Austria 2018
Remembering the time I was in Vienna enjoying a cup of coffee with a slice of the famous Sachertorte. It's one of the places I would love to go back to now that I have started writing and sharing my coffee adventures. Vienna, or Wien in its native tongue, is a city for coffee lovers. You will know this when you visit their coffeehouses or kaffeehaus as the locals would say. It's like stepping back in 1680s when the first coffeehouses opened in Vienna, you can still see poster-plastered or chandelier lit places where you can enjoy different variations of coffee and mouth-watering cakes. It brings feelings of nostalgia and wonder. I can say Vienna's history is very much alive in their traditional coffeehouses but I must also give recognition to the city's up-and-coming third-wave modern coffee shops which I would also love to explore more of in the future!
There are so many stories to tell about Vienna! Surely, their coffee culture needs another entry for this blog, for now I can't help but share this lovely picture I took from a coffeehouse/bakery called L. Heiner. Wanting to avoid crowds on our last day in Austria while still desiring a traditional experience, we stepped in for coffee and a slice of their Truffle Torte. While maybe not as famous as some of their contemporaries such as Demel or Hotel Sacher, the range of pastries on offer at L. Heiner is a feast for the eyes and comes highly rated by locals and tourists alike. A Sachertorte is also available, in fact we bought two on the way out! One for us and one as a pasalubong to be shared between friends. Having experienced the Sachertorte at Hotel Sacher (and also bought one, again to be shared as a pasalubong. Honest!) differences are there but I will leave the food experts to decide which is best!
I hope you find some sort of information and inspiration with this coffee postcard! Looking forward to 2019 with more coffee stories and places to share. Let me also take this opportunity to tell you that we now have a contact form for any questions, suggestions or messages you have for me and my coffee adventures! I may have included a digital treat for you!
Happy New Year! Stay Caffeinated!
